About.

SME Digital Advisor is a free reference for owners and directors of SMEs. It exists to demystify the technology, security, data, AI and cloud terms that come up in supplier conversations, insurance renewals, board meetings, customer questionnaires and the news.

What this site is

Three pages, on purpose.

  • Terms — an A–Z of 94 technology, security, data, AI and cloud terms, each explained in plain English in a paragraph or two.
  • Translation — 16 worked examples of what a technician says and what it actually means for the business.
  • What owners ask — the twelve digital questions SME owners are actually asking right now, drawn from real owner communities.

Who it's for

You run a business. You sign off the IT budget, sit on the board, or own the relationship with your IT supplier. You don't need to know how a firewall is configured — you need to know what one is, what it does, and what to ask. That's what's here.

Who's behind it

SME Digital Advisor is published by Andrew Rea & Associates, an independent advisory practice working with SME owners on technology, security and supplier decisions.

The archive

An earlier version of this site included risk topics, scenario playbooks, policy starters, an OWASP guide, flashcards and more. That content is still here at /archive/ for anyone who finds it useful.

A note on what this isn't

It's not a checklist, an audit, a course, or advice for your specific business. Definitions are general; your situation may need a conversation with a person. If you want one, get in touch.
